This Aweber review is just a reflection of my own experience with this platform while searching for a good email marketing tool for my business.

I’m going to share with you what I liked most about it and what I didn’t. Also, as you know, I’m not an expert here; I’m just a previous user, so my words will be combined with some insights from experts in this field. At the end, you will have an overview of it so you can decide whether to use it or not.

What is AWeber?

Aweber is one of the older players you have probably heard about if you were after an email marketing tool. They even claim that they have invented the autoresponder—one of the big deals in the email marketing world.

Well, AWeber actually has a simple and reliable platform that will help you build your first email list or grow it if you already have one. You will find tools to create newsletters and automate your campaigns effortlessly. The platform has some handy features like an easy-to-use drag-and-drop editor and ready templates; it even allows you to integrate with other tools.

The AWeber platform

Looks great, right? But as you know, no tool is perfect. AWeber also has some downsides, or should I say some limitations, I noticed while using it. So, let’s see if being the first means being the best option in 2025. Let’s dive into it.

AWeber Dashboard

Once you create an account on AWeber, you will be redirected to the dashboard. The first thing you will notice here is that it has a clean and well-organized dashboard.

Screenshot of AWeber Dashboard

It is easy to navigate, so you can manage your email campaigns efficiently. I liked the modern colors used—a mix of soft blue and gray—it is comfortable for the eyes.

Besides that, the first impression shows that the platform loads quickly, which is important. This will ensure smooth transitions between sections and minimal waiting time even when you handle large lists of subscribers or build an automation workflow.

I accessed the platform from my phone as well, so I found it responsive and adapted to small screen sizes. This is also important if you want to edit your emails on a desktop, tablet, or even mobile without issues.

The platform has an amazing feature called Quick Menu.

Screenshot of AWeber Quick Menu feature

This feature allows you to navigate between the platform’s different pages and features easily and faster. It enables you to select options you want manually from the menu, or you can use the keyboard shortcuts. For example, to access the feature itself by pressing “Command (⌘) + K” if you are using Mac or CTRL + K on PC to open it. Click outside to close it.

You can also click M on the keyboard to open messages, D for dashboard, S for subscribers, L for lists switching lists, and more. You can download their PDF cheatsheet for quick reference.

Screenshot of AWeber Quick Menu Cheatsheet

However, the platform supports only English, which can be challenging for those who are not familiar with English or who prefer other languages. This doesn’t affect your email creation or sending; you can use multiple languages in this case. However, it would be better if they supported more languages in the future.

Overall, the platform is user-friendly, although some experts say some features require a learning curve. It is ideal for beginners, making it highly usable.

Before diving into its features, I would like to mention that in this AWeber review, I relied on the free plan provided, which is actually one of the things I liked about it.

Unlike other competitors like Moosend, you will find a free plan of course with limited access, in addition to an AWeber badge included in all your emails.

On the other hand, it will at least give you more time to try the platform and send around 3000 emails to 500 contacts. This will give you a clear idea of whether to upgrade or to look for another alternative.

What feature does AWeber offer in 2025?

Ok, now let’s dive in to see how AWeber connects you with your audience.

Email Creation & Sending

To create your first campaign on AWeber, head over to the main menu on the left side of your desktop screen. If you are using a tablet or mobile, you can access it by clicking the toggle menu button on the top right side of your screen.

Once you click it, you will see all the options for creating and sending emails under messages. The first thing you will notice here is that regular emails are called “Broadcasts” which can be a little overwhelming at the beginning. However, you will get used to it over time.

Click all messages to head over to the messages page, then click Create a message. You will find different options to create your email, including

  • Drag-and-Drop Editor
  • Smart Designer
  • Plein text editor
  • Custom HTML editor

AWeber email creation options

Using the drag-and-drop editor is the most recommended method always if you want to build it manually; this way you will save more time.

Of course, I will mention the job of other tools as well. But first, let’s start with the drag-and-drop editor.

Drag and Drop Editor

AWeber drag and drop editor compared to some tools I tested before, I think it is one of the best. What makes it good is that it is more flexible, even if you use it through your phone. Unlike the GetResponse editor, which is not the best on this side. Of course, they have both mobile apps, but being responsive on any device or anywhere you browse will be better.

Screenshot of AWeber Message Subject

So, as you can see once you enter the editor, first on the top left side you will be able to insert the Subject Line and Preview Text to your email. They also provide you suggestions to make your subject lines and preview text for your email better. AWeber also allows you to personalize them as you want to make your audience feel special.

After you finish creating your email subject line and preview text, now is the time to design your email.

Screenshot of AWeber email Drag and Drop editor

On the left side of the editor, AWeber provides you with a list of 15 elements you can use to enhance your emails.

The basic customizable content blocks including:

  • Text – Add and customize the text in your email.
  • Image – Insert images to make your emails visually appealing.
  • Button – Create call-to-action buttons.
  • Divider – Separate sections for better readability.
  • Video – Embed videos directly into emails.
  • Logo – Add your brand’s logo.
  • Row – Structure content in different layouts.

Besides that, you will find more advanced tools to use, like

  • Feed – which lets you pull in RSS content automatically.

Product – to easily add products to your emails with a predesigned element featuring an image, product name, description, and link. For Etsy stores, AWeber auto-fetches product details after integration.

AWeber email product feature

  • Article – for inserting blog posts.

Coupon – The coupon block is a text block for adding discounts to emails, featuring a dashed border for a cut-out feel. You can customize the border and background in the settings.

You can also add Social links to connect with your audience, Share buttons will encourage readers to spread your content.

  • Signature for personalization
  • Carousel to create an interactive image slider

Also, AWeber supports AMP for Email, allowing you to include dynamic elements like polls and interactive content.

In terms of writing, I liked the way AWeber offers keyboard shortcuts to write content faster. I found it very helpful, just start writing, then type slash (/) and let their AI assistance generate the rest for you.

There are 22 default font styles, such as Lato, Open Sans, and Roboto. This will help you make your emails look more professional and match your website’s style. You can set a global font for your emails, so you don’t have to change them one by one.

email Drag and Drop editor

AWeber allows you also to create dynamic email content by using variables that pull specific information about your subscribers (names, locations, or other details) and lists directly into your emails. For example, if you want to greet your subscribers by their first names, use the variable {{ subscriber.first_name }} in the email.

If you want to add an unsubscribe link, you can use {{ subscriber.unsubscribe_link }}. By creating personalized content you will build a strong relationship with your audience. This will increase your open rates and give you more opportunities to convert subscribers into customers.

For pictures, you can import your images from your local files and direct links. Also, their integration with picture sources like Unsplash gives you access to thousands of high-quality stock photos. You can also design them using Canva, which is amazing for creating custom visuals right inside AWeber.

Also, the editor offers some advanced features like Zoom, undo/redo, and preview to see your design.

While the editor lacks some small features, AWeber may include them in the future. Overall, the AWeber editor is flexible and user-friendly.

AWeber Email Templates

If you’re a beginner and don’t know how to design your email, AWeber has a lot of ready-to-use templates that are easy to work with. You will find over 600 ready-to-use templates across 17 categories. This is a huge number compared to GetResponse or Moosend. Well, while some experts say that many of these templates are similar, so they count them 169 different designs.

Screenshot of some AWeber templates

Also, they see these templates as a bit old compared to other tools, but you can still find a good one by making some changes.

You don’t have to worry about responsiveness; these templates are responsive and look good on both computers and mobile phones.

Once you edit them on the same drag-and-drop editor I mentioned above, you can check how your email will look on a phone before you send it by clicking the preview button on the editor.

Smart Designer

This feature is good also, but I prefer designing emails myself. It is a time saver, as they describe it; it will automatically create for you a beautiful email template in just a few seconds. All you have to do here is give the URL of your website so it will create a template based on it. You will see it perfect, but keep in mind that perfect things take time, not a few seconds. This feature sometimes works well, but in others, it misses picking up things like a logo or color scheme.

email Drag and Drop editor

To use it, enter your website URL, and after that, it will ask you some questions like

How skilled are you with email marketing?

What’s your primary business goal?

And you will get results.

Plein text & HTML editor

The Plein text editor allows you to create text-only messages, you will insert the Subject Line and Preview Text to your email, preview it also personalize it with variables. The HTML editor to create your messages from scratch using HTML.

Ok, now after you design your email you can send them immediately or schedule them for a date you choose.

Screenshot of AWeber email sending options

Split Test

Besides that, AWebe allows you to set up A/B tests to see to experiment which subject lines and email content perform best.

The concept here is to create your Split Test, give it a name, and select your segment if you want to send your split test to a specific segment. After that set a split test distribution to your test (example: 50%) or create a custom one.

Once you create it, select a ready email from your drafts, or create a new one if you want. After configuring everything, Click Send Message Now, to send variant A to 50% of your subscribers, and send or schedule variant B to the rest 50%.

AWeber Email Split Tests

To give this feature a try, click Messages select Email marketing > Split Tests > Create a Split Test. AWeber will let you test up to 3 variants at once for the same email.

List Management & Segmentation

If you already have a list of contacts, you can import it to AWeber effortlessly. All you have to do is head over to Subscribers in the main menu, click it, then select Add Subscribers > Import Multiple.

AWeber enables you to import them with their importing tool. It contains a text box for copying and pasting a complete list of email addresses separated by commas. Or upload a spreadsheet in these formats (XLS, XLSX, TSV, CSV, TXT). You can also migrate them for free with AWeber’s free migration service.

AWeber Importing Subscribers feature

Once you import your file, they ask you to map the data you want to include to your subscriber fields. You’ll also have the option to send confirmation messages to your new subscribers. AWeber automatically generates a confirmation message you can find and edit under List Options > List Settings > Confirmation Message.

After that, you can organize your subscribers efficiently, and assign them optional tags. This allows you to categorize and personalize your messaging by grouping subscribers based on their interests, behaviors, or other criteria.

Also, AWeber requires you to disclose how you got these subscribers to join your list. Did you purchase them or sign them up on your website? Are they from another email provider? This verification step ensures compliance with anti-spam regulations.

Once your list is imported, you can customize it under List Options > List Settings > Personalize Your List. This section allows you to:

  • Add your company details, logo, and email signature.
  • Connect your social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter) to automatically share newsletters.
  • Store all your newsletters in an online Newsletter Hub, where subscribers can access them anytime.
  • Manage the Unsubscribe Page, where your subscribers can control their subscriptions. A link to this page appears at the bottom of every email you send. You can view and edit this page under the View Unsubscribe Page.

Also, you can use Global Snippets to insert reusable text, like store hours, coupon codes, or event dates, into multiple emails. These snippets automatically update across all automated messages when edited. Also, on this page, you will be able to remove the “Powered by AWeber” badge once you upgrade to the Plus plan.

List Segmentation

Ok, now to segment your subscribers, first head over to the Subscribers page and use the Search Option.

AWeber List Management segmentation options

This feature allows you to filter your contacts based on things like their location, whether they opened your emails, or if they clicked a link. Once you find the right group, you can save it as a segment, so you can email them anytime without searching again.

Once your segment is saved, it will automatically update whenever new contacts meet the criteria. For example, if someone from your target location opens your email, they will be added to the segment. This makes it easy to keep your lists fresh and targeted.

However, AWeber’s segmentation is simple and will work well if you are a beginner. but, for more advanced segmentation options, like combining multiple filters or sending to several segments at once, you might need to explore other tools. But for most basic needs, AWeber does the job just fine.

Autoresponder & Automation

In terms of automation, the first thing you will notice is that AWeber calls automation ‘Campaigns’, and in the free plan, you can create only one.

To create an automation on AWeber, go to Automation > Campaigns > Create Campaign.

AWeber’s Campaigns help you send emails automatically based on certain triggers. For example, when someone signs up for your newsletter, you can send them a welcome email. If they click on a deal, you can tag them and send a follow-up email later.

AWeber says they invented the autoresponder, which is a big deal in email marketing. At first, it just sent one automatic email at a time. Now, with Campaigns, you can set up a whole series of emails to send automatically. This makes it easy to stay in touch with your audience without extra work.

This feature is simple and great for beginners. It works best for creating drip campaigns, where emails are sent over time, such as welcome emails, discount codes, or reminders.

When you create a new campaign, AWeber provides 9 ready-to-use templates to help you get started, including Welcome Series, Blog Automation, Lead Magnets, Mini-Courses, and more.

AWeber automation ready templates

If you’re looking for even more options, the Marketplace offers 13 pre-written email templates for different industries. These templates are easy to import into your AWeber account using sharing codes. Just copy the code, click import, paste the code, name the campaign, and click Import Campaign.

AWeber review Import Campaign

If you upgrade to the Pro plan, you get access to extra features like abandoned cart emails, which help bring back customers who didn’t complete their purchases.

However, AWeber’s automation isn’t as flexible as some competitors when it comes to advanced logic, like using “if/then” conditions to trigger emails based on complex behaviors, such as a user’s location or specific actions.

AWeber Automation Campaign Editor

One of AWeber’s strong points is tagging. You can use tags to track subscriber behavior and interests, triggering specific emails based on their actions. This helps you segment your audience and send them the most relevant content.

Overall, AWeber is a great choice for simple and effective automation. It’s perfect for beginners who need a straightforward solution. If you need more advanced automation, you might want to consider other platforms.

Landing Pages & Forms

AWeber allows you to build a landing page or a form to start collecting subscribers. If you are using the free plan, you will be able to build only one page.

To do that, head over to Pages & Forms > Landing Pages > Create a Landing Page.

AWeber already created a simple sign-up form page for you in advance; you can use it or edit it using the AWeber landing page drag-and-drop builder. It is similar to the email editor if you are already familiar with it, only the type of content elements you can add is different.

If you prefer to build a more attractive one, click Create a landing page.

Landing Page Templates

AWeber provides 53 ready-to-use landing page templates, with a form embedded inside most of them. These landing pages are categorized into 9 different categories, including:

  • About or Bio Pages
  • Blog or Podcast
  • Consultations
  • Ecommerce
  • Events or Webinars
  • Freebies
  • Opt-In
  • Thank You Pages
  • Other Pages

AWeber ready to use landing pages templates

You can also start building your own from scratch, but this is a time-consuming option. Instead, consider using a ready-made template and adding your final touch to make it more attractive.

Their landing pages are good-looking and mobile-friendly. However, if you didn’t find your preferred design, AWeber gives you access to more than 160 additional templates. All of them are good-looking and categorized into more niches. If you like one of them, all you have to do is hover over the template, then click Copy, and AWeber will import it for you.

Landing Page Builder Features

As you can see in the screenshot below, the landing page builder is very straightforward to use.

Form editing options in the AWeber landing page builder

It follows the same drag-and-drop interface as AWeber’s email editor, which ensures a consistent experience. You can use:

  • Stock Photos – Access a selection of free images.
  • Fonts – Choose from 45 different fonts to match your brand.

You will also be able to track the performance of your page by adding Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel tracking.

Also, you can connect your landing pages with Stripe for e-commerce transactions.

Customizable forms (inline, pop-up, exit-intent, and lightbox options).

Sign-Up Forms in AWeber

Talking on Forms, AWeber allows you to build your own form for your landing page or your website. Just navigate to: Pages & Forms > Sign Up Pages > Create a Sign Up Form.

AWeber also provides a lot of sign-up form templates, categorized by industry and function. These can be customized in several ways:

Types of Forms:

  • In-Line Forms: Embedded directly on your page.
  • Pop-Over Forms: Appear after a visitor spends time on your page.
  • Lightbox Forms: Similar to Pop-Over forms but darken the focus background.
  • Pop-Up Forms: Open in a new window (but may be blocked by browsers).
  • Exit-Intent Forms: Appear when a visitor tries to leave your page.

Each template can be customized extensively. Also, AWeber provides integration plugins for popular website builders like WordPress, Squarespace, Shopify, and Wix, making it easy to embed forms on your website.

Split Testing for Forms

Besides that, AWeber allows you to run split tests for your sign-up forms, to determine which form design or copy converts best. However, A/B testing for entire landing pages is not available within AWeber. If you want to test different landing page versions, you’ll need to use Google Analytics experiments or third-party tools.

Integrations

When it comes to integrations, AWeber has a good number of them ( around 750 integrations available or more), which will make it one of the largest options available. With only one click, you can connect your account in AWeber with Google Analytics, for example, CRM systems, payment processors, social media platforms, and much more.

AWeber Integrations

Web Push Notifications

This feature on AWeber allows you to send quick, targeted messages directly to your subscribers, even when they’re not on your website. It’s as simple as a single click for them to subscribe, and you can use these notifications to share news, special offers, or reminders.

It is a great way to keep your audience engaged and bring them back to your site—no email is required. Also, it works seamlessly across all devices, so you will ensure you reach your audience wherever they are.

Analytics and Reporting

Once you finish configuring everything, with AWeber Reports you can track the success of your campaigns easily. You will be able to see how many people opened your emails, clicked your links, or even unsubscribed—all in one place. With this data, you understand what’s working well and what’s need to improve.

When it comes to landing pages, as I already said AWeber lets you integrate with Google Analytics to get insights about how your pages are performing and shows you traffic details and conversion rates. You can also use Facebook Pixel to track more advanced metrics and refine your strategy for better results.

AWeber Deliverability

In terms of deliverability, according to experts, AWeber has gotten better over time, but it wasn’t always the best. Most of the time, AWeber’s emails reach inboxes because it has good features like DKIM authentication and strong spam filters.

However, it doesn’t offer a dedicated IP address, which could be a problem for big email campaigns. Overall, AWeber works well, but some users might have issues with certain email services like Outlook.com.

Customer Support

AWeber offers several ways to reach out to their support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including email, and phone. Compared to some competitors like GetResponse, AWeber offers support by phone, which marks a point for them.

On the other hand, it only offers support in English compared to GetResponse, which offers 8 languages. Also, you can contact them through live chat. I tried to reach them to see how fast their response was. We received a reply in less than 4 minutes. Perfect. Overall, Aweber has good and fast support, but its quality depends on your experience.

After a year of successful advertising, he enjoys its reasonable price and continues developments, like AI integration. AWeber meets both George’s present and future email marketing needs.

Negative AWeber Review

But for Bogdan, the frustration comes from the confirmation email continually ending up in the spam folder. He tried to resolve the issue with AWeber’s support team, but it has turned out to be ineffective, as they have continually sent him articles without addressing the issue. Bogdan was frustrated with the lack of competent support, leading him to give a clear warning: “DON’T DO EMAIL MARKETING WITH AWEBER.”
